GOODBYE MR BOND was a worthy winner, given that he had looked unlucky in the Zetland Gold Cup last time. Considering he relishes an end-to-end gallop, he did well to win, getting up close home to deny Granston, who had the run of the race and was given the luxury of a soft lead. Granston showed himself in a good light and was only caught in the dying strides. Krugerrand, who goes so well here, is another who would have preferred a stronger gallop. He looked as though he would be able to go and pick up the leaders when pulled out to launch his challenge, but, although he stayed on, the principals were not coming back to him. El Coto ran well, getting outpaced when the leaders quickened, before staying on dourly. He will make amends when afforded a stronger-run race. The same comment applies to Dancing Lyra, who also became outpaced when the final dash developed and then suffered minor interference before being switched and staying on strongly. Useful hurdler Premier Dane ran a creditable race back on the Flat. Master Of The Race was disappointing, while Rio Riva failed to settle on ground arguably too quick for himin any case. |
