ANALYSIS: A typically competitive line-up for this historic and valuable handicap, which was run at a strong gallop from the outset, with three habitual front-runners setting the pace.

REGENT'S SECRET, who loves to be towed along at a brisk clip, was in his element sitting off the pace and he came home strongly to settle the issue close home. A triple-winner at Hamilton, which likewise has an uphill finish, he was quietly fancied for this race and may now be aimed at a heritage handicap at Sandown's Eclipse meeting, though he may struggle to make the cut in that event.

Riley Boys, successful at Beverley 24 hours earlier, ran a blinder under a 6lb penalty, while Hula Ballew, back over a mile, also turned in a creditable effort under a 5lb penalty, and she is standing up well to her busy campaign.

Vicious Warrior came out of the race with as much credit as any, as he raced up with the pace throughout, not getting things easy, and hung on grimly inside the last furlong.

Although comfortably held by the principals, Flighty Fellow ran well enough to suggest he is on his way back to form.

Wigwam Willie was far from disgraced, but Freeloader, who was significantly supported, flattened out tamely under pressure after being produced to win his race.

Lago d'Orta, who lost a lot of ground at the start, ran well in the circumstances.

ANALYSIS: Planned tactics to hold him up were thrown out of the window, but Dean McKeown's plan B to make the running worked a treat as VICIOUS WARRIOR recorded only his second success in 36 starts under an enterprising ride. He upped the tempo in the straightand just had enough in reserve to hold the runner-up. If the ground had not dried up somewhat he would not have run.

Hawkit stayed on under pressure to peg back the winner with every stride but could not quite get there. A bit further perhaps suits him better.

Stellite, not nearly as well drawn as the first two, had run another good race, staying on under pressure, and in essence the 4lb he went up for his win last time just did for him.

Queen's Echo, another badly drawn and perhaps racing on ground quicker than ideal, managed to get to the inner in the closing stages and kept on in the closing stages - she left encouragement of better to come.

Bollin Michael took a long time to get going, but stayed on under pressure in theclosing stages.

Corky dwelt and just plugged on in the straight without being able to get in contention.

Nevada Desert, a stablemate of the winner, was handy enough turning for home but he faded inside the final quarter-mile. It was only his second run of the term and he may have a bit more to offer now.

Sovereignty took a very keen hold and, close up turning for home, had given best over two out. It was his first run since mid-October and he is capable of winning a similar race.

Sea Storm was fifth into the straight, but was well beaten in the end. He is not firing yet.
