ANALYSIS: The first three were in the first three throughout, but that's not to say it was a falsely run race. It was a good effort from CRISTOFORO and his connections, who identified the lack of an obvious front-runner and changed tactics, jumping him straight off into a lead that was never really challenged. Although he had made all in a minor handicap hurdle at Wetherby in May, all of his Flat wins, including five from six starts in 2004, had been gained under waiting rides, but he looked very happy in front, setting a solid pace throughout. His rider had a look around two furlongs out and was able to ease him inside the final furlong. He was value for nearer double the winning margin, and will surely be rated in the mid-80s after this, having started last year on 48. If that proves too much, he will look attractively handicapped over hurdles back over hurdles on 107. All Star, who has also been hurdling, was never far away and stayed on to take second from Flotta, who had chased the winner throughout. Serbelloni had been off the track for 11 weeks and wasn't disgraced. Mokaraba, one of only two three-year-olds in the field and stepping up in distance, was at a disadvantage racing wide throughout, but stayed on well enough to suggest she got the trip. Topkat, another who was up in trip, was always among the backmarkers and ran disappointingly. |
