ANALYSIS: Returning from a short break after a fair effort of the Flat, TOMINA absolutely routed his opposition in style. Barry Fenton was keen to get on with things in front after the early pace looked sedate, and he gradually wound it up to win going away. Plans for a chasing career have been firmly put on hold, and he could well develop into a smart staying hurdler, with the Pertemps Final at the Festival a possible target. To his credit, Phar From Frosty kept tabs on the easy winner for the final part of the race, but had no answer to his turn of foot, and time will almost certainly tell he had little chance at the weights. Graham Lee had only one ride on the card, and his mount Burren Moonshine fared reasonably well on her first start for the now in-form Bowen stable. All of her best form had come on much quicker ground, but she kept on nicely and won the race for the also-rans. Heir To Be travelled nicely until three-out, and ran well on his first run after a long break. There is every chance he will be suited by a drop down in trip, given his form last season, and possibly does not truly stay three miles, let alone this trip. Paddy Brennan certainly earnt his riding fee on Diletia, as she was never going from an early stage, and did well to finish as close as she did. Disappointment of the race was Marlborough Sound who had looked most progressive going into the race, but showed very little during it. Connections were unable to pinpoint a reason for the poor effort, but theground may have had something to do with it. The saddest sight of the race was seeing Valley Henry back-pedalling rapidly at an early stage, and he is a shadow of the horse that once finished fourth in a Gold Cup and started odds-on for the 2003 Charlie Hall Chase. |
