ANALYSIS: The pace was steady here until they quickened coming down the hill, and few got seriously involved.

JACK OF TRUMPS is quite a gross horse and was expected to need the run, but he was always travelling well, held up on the inside rail, and as they approached the 2f marker he was clearly going best.

Challenging between horses, he quickened to lead inside the final furlong and went a length or so up, then tired and only just held on. A tough and genuine handicapper who tries hard and is just as effective on turf, he has plenty of options.

Flotta, making his debut for new connections, ran right up to his best. He stays further, but was helped here by racing up there all of the way. He lacks a turn of foot but stayed on well and only just failed to get back up.

Mad Carew usually runs his race here but is in the grip of the handicapper and had to drop to claiming company for his recent win.

There was no disgrace in top-weight Crystal's fourth, although she had the run of the racein front on her AW debut.

Mr Tambourine Man ran respectably in fifth for a stable that has yet to strike, while Dovedon Hero ran on from the back of the field for sixth and was far from disgraced considering he didn't get the strong pace that suits him.

Mith Hill progressed well last season, but he was caught a bit flat-footed here when the pace was stepped up, and his rider accepted the situation when his chance had gone. He will leave this behind.
