TOTE WIN £16.10 PL £2.80, £6.30, £4.00; Ex £183.30; CSF £244.80; TRICAST £4431.17 ANALYSIS: Just a fair handicap, in which GAN EAGLA became the third winner of the afternoon to make all the running, although luck was on his side. Returning from a three-month break, he came under pressure on the approach to the home straight and was being strongly tackled when left clear by Piran's final-flight fall. He was only 1lb higher than when gaining his most recent victory, over course and distance a year ago, and this is the way to ride him. Topweight Pro Dancer, a dual Listed winner when trained in Ireland, ran his best race since joining this yard but was fortunate to collect second prize. Wearing cheekpieces for the first time, he shaped as if this trip stretched his stamina a little. Spike Jones has been held since scoring on his first run for this yard at Chepstow in January but shaped as if worth another try at this sort of trip. Etendard Indien continues to fall in the handicap but does not give the impression that he is about to end his barren spell. Wally Wonder, in a visor rather than blinkers, was another to drop away on the long run to the third-last and looks high enough in the weights now. Piran, raised 8lb for his win over three miles here last time, steadily closed on Gan Eagla and was alongside, just about appearing the likelier scorer, when he stepped into the last and took an ugly fall. He appeared unhurt but this experience might leave mental scars |
