With several of the principals in the betting running below form and five of the 13 runners racing from out of the handicap, the form looks modest for the grade/prize money.
Blades Boy did not run badly but was still well held on his return from a short break at Wolverhampton on his previous start. However, with that run under his belt and switched to fibresand, he showed improved form, benefiting from the assistance of Donna Caldwell, whose 7lb claim ensured he had just a featherweight to carry.
This was a soft race for the grade, but he should continue to go well off low weights in similar company, while his rating enables him to run in a lower class.
