ANALYSIS: The first difference of opinion on the best ground, as the field split with four staying stands side, but Nivernais, who pulled well clear that side, could not get into the frame despite running fast.

That suggests that Royal Challenge, who stayed on steadily, from losing ground in switching to stay stands side, Threezedzz and Pinchbeck were somewhat disadvantaged.

NAJEEBON showed good all-round speed and clung on gamely. He has competed at a higher level but paid with the handicapper last year for a good win at York late in 2003. He has gradually come down to a winning mark and as his form is on a much sounder surface, this reappearance suggests he can pay his way this summer.

Morse was bustled along early to hold a handy position on this drop back in trip but was outpaced before staying on strongly into the final furlong. He is another who has dropped a couple of pounds in the weights and looks ready to strike sooner rather than later.

Kingscross goes well on this ground and made a good restart with things in his favour.

Cape St Vincent, twice a winner over this trip at Wolverhampton, could never quite go the leading pace after running over further recently and making his comeback after finishing lame last time out on the all-weather 55 days ago.

Marsad was reported unsuited to the ground.
