The confidence was justified as she showed good early pace and ran right to the line to win decisively. She is most effective on fast ground on turf. Doughty had shown a bit more encouragement on his last run, and he ran well again here, sticking on well without quite being able to collar the winner. Laurel Dawn had been reluctant to go down, and was strugglinga bit early on in the race. But rousted along he stayed on to finish somewhat closer than it had looked possible. Redoubtable kept on and wasn't beaten far, and despite his 14 years he still retains his enthusiasm and some ability. Azuree, astable companion of Redoubtable, was prominent from the outset, and this wasn't a bad effort, especially as her best performances have been over six furlongs. Cark was having his first run for over a year, and did enough to suggest that at his best he can win again in this sort of company. Velvet Touch went left at the start, and ran well below expectations. Fergal Lynch reported that Velvet Touch fly leapt leaving the stalls. A course and distance winner on his last run but one, Mr Spliffy ran below that form last time and again here. |
