ANALYSIS: This looked an open, if moderate event on paper, but few ever looked like getting into it.

WHINHILL HOUSE, stumbled early on when unplaced behind his stable companion Mecca's Mate at Thirsk last week, but things went smoothly for him here and he put up a fine performance to defy top weight and a penalty in convincing fashion. He has won on good to soft, and is happy on the fibresand at Southwell.

Viewforth stayed on without being able to get a blow at the winner, and he has run a decent race again, but he hasn't won since 2003.

Telepathic, another shouldering a penalty, had a wall of horses to contend with to get a run, and when he finally found daylight on the rails, he finished well. Six furlongs probably suits him better, and he seems on good terms with himself at present.

Blinkered for the first time, Abelard was denied a run at a vital time, but ran on well when clear and may be worth another look with the blinkers on again.

Malahide Express showed good speed, but was a spent force once headed.

Grandma Lily was yet another to keep on without getting in a blow, but a bit further, and an easier surface suits her better.

Simon Whitworth reported that Laconia bled from the nose.
