Although not ideally drawn for a horse who needs a bit of cover, he came bursting home on the outside to win readily. A useful horse on his day, he may be capable of winning at Group 3 level. Baltic King, who had looked unlucky when third to Chookie Heiton in this race 12 months ago, sneaked up the rail and was produced to win his race, but he was cut down late on. The ground may have been too dead for him. Mecca's Mate, dropped out at the rear, stayed on after coming off the rail, while Corridor Creeper, who made the running from his low draw, edged away to his left from the rail. Tournedos ran a solid race, but the remainder were comfortably held, with Fonthill Road being caught out by the drop back to five furlongs. Soon outpaced, he was asked for an effort at halfway but was never finding anything like enough; his hard race in the Stewards' Cup might also have had an effect on him. |
