ANALYSIS: The stands' side proved to be the place to be here, with the first five home racing on that side of the track, while those who came down the middle were the also-rans.

EFFECTIVE, who escaped a penalty for a win in a 6f apprentices' race at Goodwood last week, had never previously won over this shorter trip but he had the pace to race handily throughout and pulled away in the closing stages to score with something in hand.

Bold Maggie, who had not reached the frame in eight previous starts, showed good speed throughout and kept on for a creditable second, despite her rider becoming unbalanced in the last 150 yards.

Blades Boy, reportedly never travelling when well-beaten at Haydock last time, was never far away under his experienced rider on this occasion but could not respond when the winner made his move a furlong out.

Rileys Dream, who has been running over 6f and 7f recently, also turned in a creditable effort on this drop back in trip, but her best chance of another win will come when she reverts to one of the longer distances.
