ANALYSIS: A competitive little handicap. PULSE, who had ended a long losing run when winning a banded race at Lingfield last month, confirmed that he has gone the right way since as - following a good second at Brighton on Sunday - he battled on well here to see off Whinhill House.

The runner-up had done all his winning to this point on the all-weather, but he showed here that he can also be effective on grass, though he did carry his head high under pressure in the closing stages.

High Ridge, who showed his best form last season over 6f on fast ground, turned in a fine first effort this season on going that would be on the slow side for him, and he could be in for another good season.

Cashel Mead had every chance but possibly paid for helping to force the pace and she had nothing more to offer from the furlong mark.

*Jamie Spencer reported that Salon Prive was unsuited by the ground.
